Warning: this may be the most boring post I have ever written! Today I made granola.
We went to Fforest Farm a few weekends ago where they do the most amazing breakfast spread. Freshly baked sourdough, boiled eggs, fruit, yoghurts and delicious homemade granola.
The granola was delicious and made with Welsh honey and something I looked forward to every morning. It is something I have never made before and I quickly searched for a recipe online, it looked easy. Why hadn’t I tried before?
I bought jumbo porridge oats, cranberries, honey, raisins and mixed seeds after perusing the dried ingredients ailse. At home I purposefully set everything out and mixed it all together making sure the honey coated the dry mixture. Before putting it in the oven on a low heat to toast.
Our very temperamental oven didn’t toast evenly at all, the edges burned so I mixed it quite a few times. The aroma of toasted cinnamon oats filling the house.
After waiting for the granola to cool, I poured it into a large kilner jar (emptying out the biscuits which no longer have a home!) and placed it with pride on the kitchen shelf. Today I smugly took the time to enjoy a bowl in the garden for breakfast.
It occurred to me writing this, how such a simple ritual brings such simple pleasure. How in our busy lives we just don’t have enough time for daily rituals such as this and yet they nourish us spiritually as much as the act of eating it!
I keep meaning to have a go at making granola, as I pay a fortune for a sugar free version! I might make it my goal of the month as you've inspired me! 😊
Doesn’t sound boring at all. In fact, would love to know which recipe you used!
